Abstract: Assessment of propofol intravenous anesthesia in clinical application of gastroscopic removal of foreign bodies in esophagus Abstract: Objective To evaluate the safety and effectiveness of propofol intravenous anesthesia in clinical application of gastroscopic removal of foreign bodies in esophagus. Methods Twenty-four patients using propofol intravenous anesthesia during gastroscopic removal of foreign bodies in esophagus were analyzed retrospectively and thirty similar patients using normal methods were considered as controls. Results Foreign bodies in esophagus in all patients using propofol intravenous anesthesia were successfully removed without any serious effects. Six patients could not carry out in control group and foreign bodies in esophagus in five of them returning to use propofol intravenous anesthesia were successfully removed. SBP, HR and R of patients using propofol intravenous anesthesia were significantly decreased and SpO2 were higher than those of control patients during treatment(P<0.05). No significantly difference was found in SBP, HR, R and SpO2 of two groups after treatment(P>0.05). Conclusion Propofol intravenous anesthesia in application of gastroscopic removal of foreign bodies in esophagus is a good method with safeness and high success rate which is worth extending to further clinical use.
