Abstract: Objective: Adenoidal hypertrophy is a considerable causation of maxillofacial abnormalities. The purpose of this study was to compare dimensionally the sizes of the adenoidal tissues and in juvenile and adolescent people with and without cleft lip and palate (CLP), to observe the feature speciality of the people with cleft lip, providing theory reference for the clinical diagnosis and treatment reference design theory of the malocclusion with cleft lip. Methods: The subjects were selected from 85 patients with malocclusion, 43 patients with CLP; 42 patients without CLP . An analysis of variance was used to test for significant differences in mean values . Results: Adolescents with CLP compared with control group: the size of adenoid is obviously increasing. Juveniles with CLP compared with control group: the size of adenoid has no obviously difference. Adolescents with CLP compared with juveniles with CLP: the size of adenoid is obviously increasing .Conclusions: CLP juveniles compared with control group: the thickness of adenoid、the area of adenoid、the ratio of thickness of adenoid and the width of pharyngonasal cavity are obviously increasing . The larger adenoidal tissues in the CLP/j group, compared with those in the control/j group, decreased to a similar size with aging.

Key words: unilateral cleft lip and palate, cephlometric, the size of adenoidal tissues.
