Abstract: Abstract Objective:To determine the effects of phloroglucinol in acceleration of labour and its adverse effects on mother and fetus. Methods: A double randomized, controlled trial was conducted on 80 uncomplicated labours, with 40 in study group and 40 in controlled group. The phloroglucinol was given in the study group at the dose of 80mg intravenously in parturient phase and active phase respectively ; and the phloroglucinol was given in the controlled group at the dose of 80mg intravenously in active phase only .Results: The parturient phase was 4.03±0.40h,the active phase was 5.14±0.76h,and the average accelerate rate of cervix dilation was 2.71±1.52cm/h in study group; the results were 5.26±0.51h ,7.16±0.87h and 1.82±1.02cm/h respectively in controlled group. Conclusion: The effect of phloroglucinol given in parturient phase and active phase is superior to active phase only , with regard to acceleration of cervix dilation and reduction of the duration of labor, with no adverse reaction on mothers and fetus.
