Clinical effects of Lamotrigine monotherapy among children patients with newly diagnosed epilepsy

Abstract: Objective: To understand the clinical effective of lamotrigine for Children patients with newly diagnosed epilepsy. Methods: 80 cases of children patients with newly diagnosed epilepsy, were treated with lamotrigine. LTG was used originally at a dose of 0.5mg/(kg?d), 4 weeks achieved the goal dosage (4.0-5.0mg/(kg?d)). We observed their changes of seizure frequencies compared with the basic-line before the treatments. Result: There are 31 patients seizure free, 27 patients whose frequencies were reduced by more than 75%, 8 patients’ frequencies were reduced by more than 50%. The total effective reached 82.5%. Patients with GTCS obtained the best effects. The total effective reached 95.0%. Related adverse effcts included asthenia, somnolence, skin rashes. These adverse effects disappeared spontaneously without any special treatment. Conclusion: lamotrigine is a safe effective drug for Children patients with newly diagnosed epilepsy.
