Report of children influenza A (H1N1) cases in Tianjin

Abstract: Objective To summarize the clinical characteristics of seven children sporadic influenza A (H1N1) cases broken out in Tianjin in order to provide clinical experience and prognosis for the diagnosis and prevention of this disease. Methods The clinical data and protective measures of seven children influenza A (H1N1) inpatients confirmed by Tianjin Haihe Hospital from June 9, 2009 to September 21, 2009 were retrospectively analyzed ,and related literature was reviewed. Results There are six imported cases and one second-generation case. Fever and cough were the main symptom,Five were hyperpyrexia,three were with expectoration. Other symptoms include anergy, dizziness,headache,nasal discharge,sneeze and pharyngalgia. two children with leukocytosis decreases, two children complicating infection with leukocytosis increase,others are normal. five with normal chest X-ray, one with texture disorder, and one with bilateral multiple infiltrating image. Influenza A(H1 N1)virus confirmed was detected in the throat swab samples taken within 2 days from the seven children by real?time PCR and sequencing comparison,and were tested negative after eight to nine days in the course of this disease. Six patients were accepted Oseltamivir treatment for five days, one was only treated with anti-virus mixture.The average hospital stay was eight days.When they were discharged from hospital, all the symptoms have disappeared All the patients’ families, doctors and nurses were not infected in the case of non-directly exposed to the disease. Conclusion The seven children patients mainly showed symptoms of fever and cough,The average course is 9.1 days, and their prognosis were good. Therefore, influenza A (H1N1) is preventable and curable.
