Abstract: [Abstract] Objectives To estimated the concentration of homocysteine(Hcy) and determinants of hyperhomocysteinemia(hHcy,Hcy≥15μmol/L) among non-hypertensive people aged 40-70years in Tianjin. Methods The general characteristics of smoking, drinking, consumption of vegetable and fruits, et al were collected by means of questionnaire in the way of accident sample among community residents from May 2011 to May 2012. Plasma Hcy was measured by an enzyme cycling method. The determinants of having hHcy were evaluated from multivariate logistic regression models. Results 874 participants(mean age57±6years,male 25.5%) were involved in the survey and the concentration of Hcy was 11.8μmol/L(14.1 in male, 11.1 in female; P<0.001). The OR of having hHcy was 5.87(95%CI 3.29,10.44; P<0.001) in male, compared with female; 2.31(95%CI 1.17,4.55; P=0.016) and 3.39(95%CI 1.94,7.95; P<0.001) for participants aged 50-60 and 60-70, compared with 40-50years;0.71(95%CI 0.43,1.16; P=0.166) and 0.50(95%CI 0.28,0.90; P=0.021) for participants with consumption of vegetable and fruits >500g/d and 250-500g/d, compared with <250g/d. Conclusion The concentration of plasma homocysteine was elevated among non-hypertensive people in Tianjin. Male, increasing age were adverse factors of hyperhomocysteine, and volume of vegetable and fruits in diets was favorable one.
