Abstract: Objective To investigate the β cell function in newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes treated with oral hypoglycemic agents(OHA) and insulin treatment. Method 120 patients with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes were randomly divided into two groups , fasting blood glucose were more than 11.0mmol/L ,treated with OHA and insulin. The targets for glycemic control were fasting blood glucose less than 6.0mmol/L ,and two hours postprandial blood glucose less than 8.0 mmol/L ,which were achieved in 5~14 days, and had been lasted for 2~6 months. Before and after intensive therapy peptide C and blood glucose was performed to calculate between two groups .Results 60 cases of insulin group stopped medication after 6 months;while only 4 cases of OHA group stopped. The results displayed that insulin treatment may improve the function of beta-cell than OHA group. Conclusions Insulin treatment at early stages of 2 type diadetic patients could remove glucose toxicity and excellently improve β cell function .And the glucose were targeted more quickly , medication were stopped more early .
