Abstract: Objective:To investigate the role of hyperbaric oxygen therapy in improving the outcome of patients with severe traumatic brain injury. Methods:Selected 60 cases of traumatic brain injury patients, whose GCS score were between 3-8 when registered, all of them were practiced surgical treatment, and then were randomly divided into two groups. Patients of groupⅠ(30 cases)suffered simple drug treatment, the rest of the patients in group Ⅱ were carried out not only drug treatment, but also hyperbaric oxygen therapy after the tenth day. Results:By comparing GCS score and ambulatory EEG monitoring, patients in group Ⅱ had faster restoration of outcome than the ones in groupⅠ after 30 days’ therapy. We observed that the targets of the two groups prompted visible difference. Conclusion:Hyperbaric oxygen therapy can improve the degree and rate of recovery of outcome in patients with severe traumatic brain injury. The patients in group Ⅱ had better outcome than group Ⅰ.
