18F-FDG PET/CT affects restage and management of patients with colorectal cancer post-operation

Abstract: Objective: To evaluate the impact of 18F-FDG PET/CT in restage and management of patients with colorectal cancer post-operation. Methods: 36 patients underwent whole-body 18F-FDG PET/CT. The diagnosis standards consisted of histopathology or follow-up by conventional imaging methods. Analyzing and comparing the restage and management before and after PET/CT. Results: PET/CT yielded a correct diagnosis in 34 out of 36 patients, and altered therapy management in 17 patients: 2 patients had therapy alteration within the management, 15 patients had therapy alteration among the surgery resection, the medical treatment (chemotherapy and radiotherapy) and follow-up. The change rate was 47.2 %( 17/36) Conclusion: 18F-FDG PET/CT improves restage and management of patients with colorectal cancer post-operation.
