Clinical Analysis of 42 Cases of Infantile Cytomegalovirus Pneumonia

Abstract: [Abstract] Objective To investigate the clinical features of infantile cytomegalovirus (CMV) pneumonia. Methods Retrospective analysis the clinical data of fourty-two cases infantile CMV pneumonia. Results Infants within 6 months were more common in CMV pneumonia , manifested in varying degrees of fever, cough, sputum, wheezing, often with different degrees of liver damage, combined with low agammaglobulinemia,recurrent lower respiratory tract infections, anemia, rickets and so on. Intravenous ganciclovir were safe and effective, without severe side effects. In some resistant cases intravenous gamma globulin had good effect. Conclusions Infantile pneumonia combined with recurrent lower respiratory tract infections , immunocompromised , especially those with hepatic dysfunction should be considered of CMV pneumonia. Ganciclovir is effective in the treatment of CMV pneumonia. Refractory cases supplemented with intravenous gamma globulin.
