Abstract: Objective To evaluate the effect of Hedan tablet on oxidant stress in atherosclerosis rats. Methods Forty-eight healthy male rats were randomly divided into the normal control group、the model group、the three Hedan tablet treated groups(3g.kg-1.d-1 、1.5g.kg-1.d-1、0.5g.kg-1.d-1)and the simvastatin treated group.Hyperlipidie feed was adopted to build the athersclerosis animal model.Rats were sacrificed 12 weeks later,their histopathological changes in abdominal aorta were observed by electronic microscope；serum SOD and NO were determined by by colorimetry, and serum MDA level was determined by Thiobarbituric acid method. Results In comparing with the model group, Hedan tablet reduced the serum level of MDA as well as increased the serum level of SOD、NO(P＜0.05)。Hedan tablet treatment(3g.kg-1.d-1) showed the best effect of inhibiting the atherosclerosis formation in the three Hedan tablet treated groups. Hedan tablet showed actions in lessening the atherosclerosis lesion. Conclusion Hedan tablet treatment(3g.kg-1.d-1) can inhibit the atherosclerosis formation in experimental rats .Its mechanism might be related with its anti-oxidation effect.
