Abstract: PURPOSE: TO investigate the expression and their significance in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma and the correlation between livin and Caspase-3. METHODS: Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of livin and caspase-3 in 30 cases of polyp of vocal cord and 62 cases of laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma. RESULTS: The expression of livin laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma was significantly higher than that in polyp of vocal cord(P<0.01), however the expression of Caspase-3 was significantly higher in polyp of vocal cord than that in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (P<0.01). In laryngeal carcinoma, the expression of livin and Caspase-3 were associated with patients′Lymph node metastasis, Clinical stage and Differentiation (P<0.05), but independent of Clinical classification ,smoking history, patients′age and sex(P>0.05). A signifcantly negative relation was found between livin and Caspase-3 (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Livin was positively related to Caspase-3,which might play an important role in the carcinogenesis and development of laryngeal carcinoma by synergic effect.
