The Diagnosis and Treatment of caecal carcinoma Presenting Appendicitis

Abstract: Abstract [Objective]: To summarize the clinical features of caecal carcinoma complicated with appendicitis, investigate the method of early diagnosis and treatment for caecal carcinoma. [Methods]: There were 33 patients with caecal carcinoma between May 2004 and December 2009 and 6 of them presenting appendicitis. The clinical data were analyzed. [Results]: 2 cases diagnosed in exploration; 3 cases diagnosed by preoperative examination, but the average delay of diagnosis compared with the first visit is 3.6 months; 1 case was misdiagnosed. [Conclusion]: There are some imperative measures to decrease the misdiagnosis by deepening recognization of caecal carcinoma presenting appendicitis, giving more effective preoperative examination, exploration, intraoperative frozen pathology and postoperative routine follow-up.
