Abstract: Abstract Objective: To explore the relationships among atrial fibrillation (AF) , Interleukin-6 (IL-6) and single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) of the IL-6 -174G/C,-572C/G and -597G/A. Methods: The serum levels of interleukin -6 (IL-6), lipid and other clinical indicators were measured. The left atrial diameter (LAD) were measured by echocardiography (UCG). The frequency distribution of genotypes and alleles of the IL-6 -174G/C,-572G/C and -597G/A in samples of 127 AF patients were amplified by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism(PCR-RFLP). Results: IL-6 level and LAD of AF group is significantly higher than that of control group(P<0.01). The C allele mutation rate of IL-6 -174G/C is minimal in Han population in Jiangsu Nantong, and IL-6 -597G/A has no A allele mutation in the experiment. IL-6 -572C/G polymorphisms exist in Han population in Jiangsu Nantong, the G/C+G/G genotype distribution and G allele frequencies of IL-6 -572C/G between Atrial fibrillation group and control group have significant differences (P<0.01). Conclusion: IL-6 level and the pathogenesis of AF may be have some relationships. This study shows that among Han population in Nantong IL-6 -572 C/G polymorphic allele G mutation in the AF group is significantly higher than that of the control group (P<0.01), which may be associated with the inflammation and the pathogenesis of AF.
